11. Question
Of the following wine styles, which would you say best describes your wine preferences?
Please use the move arrow to move your preferences to the order of your perceived style with your most likely style at the top and you least likely preferences at the bottom of the list.
-
Big Bold Reds - Your preferences are for a full-bodied red wine such as California Cabenet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Syrah or Red Blend. Alcohol content at 14% ABV or above are for you. You may also like full bodied Malbecs, Merlot, Carmenere, big Spanish Reds like a Garnacha or Rioja Riserva and Italian Aglianico or Nero d' Avola among other reds.
-
Dry Tannic Reds - Your preferences are for a full-bodied red wine but at alcohol levels 14.0 ABV or below. You like the tannins found in many European wines such as Bordeaux, Cahors Malbec, Tannat, Italian Barolos, Brunellos and even California Cabernet Sauvignon but usually those grown at moderate altitudes or in cooler valleys; not grown in the warm valley floors such as Napa or the Central Valley of California.
-
Fruity Acidic Reds - Your preferences are for a fruit forward wine with the taste of luscious red or black fruits. Usually you will tend toward lower alcohol levels between 12.5% ABV and 13.5% ABV since they accompany food better than the higher alcoholic wines. Pinot Noir, Red Burgundy, Grenache, Beaujolais and Rose would be your red preference. To expand your selections, try Barbera, Zweigelt, Blaufrankisch, Mencia.
-
Full Bodied Wooded Whites - Classically you are an oaked Chardonnay drinker but other full-bodied white wines such as Viognier, Pinot Grigio, Spanish white wines also please you. You might also try some Chenin Blanc from California, an occasional Gewurtztraminer from Alsace, an Italian Soave or Vernaccia di San Gimignano, a southern French Marsanne, a Spanish Verdejo or an Australian Sémillon.
-
Crispy Refreshing White Wines - You like a good palate cleanser with citrus acidity and not too high in alcohol. Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc or Pinot Blanc please your tastes. Most dry sparkling wines such as Champagne, and Cava are right up your alley too. You might branch out with a Spanish Albarino, an Argentinian Torrontes, a French White Bordeaux or Chablis, Loire Valley Vouvray, Sancerre or Muscadet. You may be surprised at liking American hybrid grapes such as Seval Blanc or Vidal.
-
A Touch or More of Sweetness White/red - Wines with some residual sugar are your sipping pleasure. Off-dry Riesling, Moscato, and sparkling wines that are sweeter than Brut, grab your attention. In reds you might like Apothic Red, Ménage à Trois or many of the sweeter U.S. East Coast wines such as Red or White muscadine or those from Duplin Winery.
-
Wine Searcher/Explorer You like many different types of wines especially if they are well-balanced examples of that type of wine. You are always trying highly rated wines of different grape varietals, often trying to define and refine the styles of wine that suit you best. You want to learn more about wine. Your preferences go to avoid high alcohol wines like red Zinfandels and Cabernets that are over 14% abv. You like white wines that go well with food and reds that are on the dry side.
-
Predominantly Beer Preference - You will drink occasional wine. If given a choice, you would rather have a beer than wine. If you do drink wine, a low acidity wine such as Merlot or and oaked Chardonnay works well for you.
-
Most Often a Distilled Spirit Drinker - Although you would prefer a scotch, bourbon or martini, sometimes you will have wine such as a big Cabernet or red Zinfandel
-
Usually an Abstainer. Rarely drink wine or any mixed drinks. Would prefer water, iced tea or soft drinks at a social gathering.
